Let's talk lived-in locks with our USA Ambassador, Evan Stowers
You asked for more content from our ambassadors, and we listened! In this edition of our Ambassador Series, we spoke to our USA Ambassador, Evan Stowers. Having become a Foil Me Ambassador in 2019, Evan has over a decade of experience in the hair industry and in that time, has developed his own unique approach to creating seamlessly lived-in locks.
What is your absolute favourite foiling technique and what makes it your top pick?
“In my line of work, I’ve really leaned into fine highlights combined with backcombing for tip outs to create childlike, lived-in hair.”
Are there any hair colouring trends right now that you’re particularly loving?
“I love seamless blended blondes or natural coloring techniques that create longevity.”
Could you share a memorable moment where this technique or trend has made a big impact on you or your client?
“I’ve found many of my clients appreciate being able to go months without having to touch up their hair. This allows me to be indiscriminate towards my client’s budget.”
What advice would you give to fellow stylists who want to perfect this technique?
“I’ve found when trying to create a natural look at best to go about it with a finer highlight pattern but not dwelling absolutely on every section being the same as the next. You want to think about how a child’s hair would look coming back from summer break or someone who spent weeks at the beach."
Which Foil Me hair tools do you recommend to master lived-in blondes?
“The Foil Me Tint Me Brush is my daily go to. I like to use different levels of peroxide when lifting hair, so I find that a Grey Brush will always be in my lower bowl and a Pink Brush will go with my higher bowl of peroxide. When applying a lowlight or teasy lights, I like to use The Board for consistent pressure and saturation.”
